Appendicitis,what you should know

First you had this right sided lower abdominal pain that was very sharp and associated with some fever and then you vomited. O.k that may have been acute appendicitis, but this pain is not very serious and no fever noticed,This may be sub acute appendicitis. The interesting thing about  appendicitis is that it is usually not common above 35 years of age. When you see someone of this age having signs of appendicitis, please be sure to look for a colon tumor as it may what is obstructing the appendix. A CT scan is needed for all patients in this age group.Appendicitis is the inflammation noticed in the appendix. It can be obstructive or infectious in origin. When we say obstructive, we are thinking of fecoliths or stones seen in food such as rice etc.The pain of appendicitis is usually located around an anatomical landmark called the mcburneys point,a distance between the umbilicus and the anterior superior iliac spine. The posture in appendicitis is usually characteristic as the patient is unable to stand erect and lies with a style. The feature here is that the patient avoids irritation in that area as much as possible,so there is minimal contact, allowing the psoas muscle to be free.Since we have only one appendix normally which is on the right side it is not common that we have a left sided appendix,However we may have lt sided lower pains from other causes, but please get help from your doctor as soon as u can.An appendix that is recurrently inflamed may develop into an appendicial mass and cause vague pain and a swelling is usually felt in the right iliac fossa. The solution for appendicitis is usually a surgery known as appendisectomy.
